Homes near Kelsey Creek Farm: Bellevue's working farm park
If you're shopping Bellevue or the Greater Eastside and want a real working farm close to home, start with Kelsey Creek Farm. The City of Bellevue runs it inside Kelsey Creek Community Park — about 150 acres of forest, meadows and wetlands in the heart of the city, with two white historic barns sitting on the crest of a hill.
Those barns once belonged to the Twin Valley Dairy and are listed in the State Heritage Barn Register. The historic Fraser Cabin sits on the hill next to them. Together they give the park a look that feels more rural than urban, even though downtown Bellevue is only minutes away.
What you'll find at Kelsey Creek Farm
The City lists the farm at 410 130th Pl SE, Bellevue, WA 98005, in the Wilburton neighborhood. Admission and parking are free. The park is open dawn to dusk every day of the year, including holidays. Farm animals are available for viewing from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
Resident animals include ponies, goats, sheep, cows, pigs, chickens, ducks and rabbits. Larger animals spend the day in pastures; locations can change. Pets on leash are welcome in the rest of the park, but not in the barnyard.
Beyond the barnyard, Kelsey Creek Farm Park has hiking and jogging trails, picnic areas, a playground, open grassy areas, creeks, wetlands and forest. The Eastside Heritage Center hosts drop-in programs at the Fraser Cabin, and the city offers log-cabin programs and a full calendar of farm classes and events.
A short history of the farm
The land was logged in the early 1900s, then cleared for dairy. The Duey family built Twin Valley Farm and delivered milk across Bellevue. Later owners expanded the dairy barns; the Fishers raised Hereford cattle until the late 1960s, when neighbors petitioned the City to buy the farmstead as a public park instead of letting it become more housing. A wetlands parcel added in 1990 brought the park to more than 150 acres. City of Bellevue Parks & Community Services still owns and operates it today.
